palliative care

Palliative care is an approach that improves the quality of life of patients (children and adults) and their families facing problems associated with a life-threatening disease by preventing and alleviating suffering through the early detection, careful evaluation and treatment of pain and other physical symptoms, as well as psychosocial and spiritual support.

There are three out-patient medical teams providing palliative care in Kyrgyzstan: two in Bishkek and one in Osh. Since 2010, the Soros Foundation-Kyrgyzstan has been working towards the development of palliative care.
