Prevention of torture

Freedom from torture or inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment is an unconditional freedom not subject to any restrictions; no circumstances justify torture or humiliation of human dignity. Despite a number of achievements in this area, many problems remain unsolved. We will continue working on the prevention of torture, monitoring the consideration of torture cases by relevant authorities, and promoting the principles of the Istanbul Protocol on the effective documentation of torture.

In 2016-2017, a project “Support to the consolidation of national efforts to prevent torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment and in the fight against impunity in the Kyrgyz Republic” was implemented in the country. The project was funded by the European Union and executed by the Soros Foundation-Kyrgyzstan in cooperation with the Coalition Against Torture in Kyrgyzstan.
