Journalists Public Association and Media Policy Institute (MPI) Public Foundation with the support of the Soros Foundation–Kyrgyzstan launch a project to monitor the violations against journalists and the media in KR. The project is intended to run until the end of 2019.
The observers of Journalists NGO will record all facts of violations against journalists and the media in each region and prepare information statements on them. MPI will provide legal comments on each case. All statements will be posted on Journalists NGO website (http://journalist.kg/) on a regular basis. All collected information will be compiled, classified and sent to all stakeholders on a monthly basis. At the end of the year the publication of final monitoring report is scheduled.
As part of the project, in addition to registering violations against journalists and the media MPI will also provide legal assistance to those journalists and the media whose rights have been violated,
Thus, the monitoring will enable to receive not only qualitative and quantitative indicators to assess the level of speech freedom in the country but contribute to improvement of legal literacy and protection of journalists and the media.
It should be noted that Journalists NGO monitored violations against journalists and the media in KR continually from 2002 to 2007 with short breaks till 2015.
For the current monitoring, the monitoring system with a greater emphasis on registering the facts of violations against journalists and the media and providing them with legal or other assistance was revised.
