Dear friends,

We would like to present “I am active …” a calendar devoted to projects by young people in Kyrgyzstan.

The Youth Action Fund, or YAF, was created in 2009 by the Youth Initiative of Open Society Foundations (New York, USA) to operate in Kyrgyzstan out of the Soros Foundation Kyrgyzstan. The aim of the program is to encourage and support active young people to mobilize and influence a large number of their peers to promote open society ideals.

YAF is a unique individual grants program, which has supported 282 youth project. Youth activists have contributed to the development of their country through the use of innovative methods for solving social problems and promoting the interests of their communities. Most YAF projects have been aimed at educating other youth about civil society, as well as protecting the rights of vulnerable populations.

YAF holds the annual competition “Individual Mini-Grants for Youth” for individuals aged 14 to 29. Over a thousand applications have been received since the program’s inception. The mini-grants range from $200 to $2000.

“I am active…” is dedicated to the young people who have a modest but nonetheless significant contribution to solving the problems of their communities. We hope that its appeal and subject matter will serve as motivation for social activity and caring attitudes around the world.
