On October 10, The Soros Foundation-Kyrgyzstan held a Press Brunch for the media dedicated to World Mental Health Day. At the event were discussed the projects aimed at improving the quality of life of people with mental disorders, as well as the development of the mental health service in Kyrgyzstan.

The event was attended by the representative of the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic, Gulasil Sutuyeva, including the partner organizations Public Association “Family and Society” represented by Liliya Panteleyeva, Public Foundation “Turak zhai onuktoshtugu” by Akylbek Toygonov, Public Association “Mental Health and Society” by Burul Makenbaeva and Mukambetov Aibek, Director of the Public Health Program of The Soros Foundation-Kyrgyzstan.

All participants of the Press Brunch delivered presentations and shared the results of projects implemented with the support of the Soros Foundation-Kyrgyzstan.

“For the first time in the history of independent Kyrgyzstan, we are meeting this day on the verge of the state recognizing mental health. If it was formerly believed that mental health was the presence of a disease, there is a completely different approach to this issue now,” Burul Makenbaeva said.
